Data Application Support Specialist
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Director, Data Management Systems
Job Summary – The primary responsibility of the Application Support Specialist is to support the users of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This includes modifying current and developing new data entry forms and Crystal reports, and working with the Data Management Systems Director to scope new data workflow needs and design the necessary components in the EHR. The Application Support Specialist will query the database to assist with data mining, data statistics, and data analytics. The Application Support Specialist must have strong logic and troubleshooting skills, as well as a solid understanding of relational databases.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Primary support for EHR users
- Creating new forms and reports
- Supporting existing forms and reports
- Assisting with the maintenance of the internal data warehouse database
- Assisting with new design implementations
- Assisting with new EHR modules implementations
- Reviewing Release notes and testing all EHR system upgrades
- Providing end-user training on EHR solution and accompanying modules
- Ongoing support of deployed reports
- Documenting processes and creating training materials
- Logging all support issues and resolutions through department’s Helpdesk software
- Opening and tracking support cases with EHR vendor
- Helping to gather statistics and other metrics used to analyze effectiveness of services rendered
- Assisting in the support of other data application systems
- Other duties as assigned by Director, Data Management Systems
Job Qualifications

- Experience supporting an electronic health record
- Experience working in relational databases, particularly MS SQL
- Understanding of programming logic
- Understanding of form design
- Crystal Reports knowledge and experience, or comparable knowledge and experience in report creation, development, and design
- Willingness and ability to quickly learn about new technologies, processes, and procedures
- Ability to quickly pivot to meet new stakeholder requirements
- Strong computer troubleshooting and support skills
- Developed problem solving and analytical capabilities
- Excellent customer service skills, including good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Punctual, reliable, responsible, and self-motivated
- Use of personal vehicle, as needed, with mileage reimbursement
- Cultural competence
Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Associate’s degree in information systems or comparable certification and experience in database report writing
- Valid Michigan driver’s license with appropriate insurance and ability to travel as needed
Working Environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule – evening and weekend hours as needed.
